Desert Safari in Dubai: An Unforgettable Experience
A desert safari in Dubai is one of the most popular trips for tourists. It combines the adventure of crossing the dunes in 4×4 vehicles with the magic of the desert sunsets and the encounter with Arab culture at dinner in the camp. Adrenaline, beauty and tradition. In this article we will discuss why this is the activity that should not be missed on your trip to Dubai.
What a desert safari in Dubai consists of?
A desert safari in Dubai is an exciting activity from the city center to designated areas in the nearby desert. Travelers are picked up at the hotel in the all-terrain vehicle that you will then use to cross the dunes. Because that is the essential thing: crossing the desert dunes in a caravan of vehicles, avoiding the sometimes very steep ups and downs of the sand formations.
What a desert safari excursion includes
The caravan of vehicles forms once you arrive at the starting point of the safari. There you have some other activities and while the drivers prepare the vehicles. Tourists can buy drinks or book some other king of activities as well. You can also ride some quads in a space prepared for it, but you would already inside the desert. This activity is not included in the safari and you have to pay for it separately, with the help of our driver who can also act as an interpreter.
While the quad activity is already quite exciting, the real excitement begins when you get back on the all-terrain vehicle. Now you are really on a desert safari. The drivers release some of the air from the tires to help the vehicle adapt to the undulations of the sand.
And almost without realizing it, the vehicles begin to climb the steep dunes. The speed is not very high, but soon the vehicle begins to lean from one side to the other. As soon as you get on and off and in front of you see other vehicles skidding and splashing sand, which is what seconds later the car you are traveling in will do.
Dubai Desert Sunset in the desert
The safari experience is one of those that produce adrenaline rush. To set the mood for the ride, the driver has turned up the volume of the stereo and demonstrates a skill that seems impossible. And so, it goes for about 15 minutes, until, deep in the desert, the vehicles stops and you get out of the car practically applauding. The time has come to feel the desert and see how the sun slowly sets in such a landscape. The photos are of those that you will upload to Instagram for sure. But you soon put down your mobile because the moment is to enjoy it.
Dinner at the camp
The caravan resumes its journey towards the camp. There would be a barbecue that awaits you, enlivened by a show of dances and acrobatics. This dinner is included in the desert safari, and believe it or not, there are so many vehicles and tourists that you are stuck in a traffic jam for a few minutes. Yes, a traffic jam in the desert, who would have thought it. Luckily, the driver soon leaves the road and the cars are divided between different camps, once again deep in the desert.
The camp consists of just a few cabins and a platform serving as a stage. Around it, armchairs and wooden tables are set up for dinner. A dinner that is organized in parts with starters, a main course, and a dessert. When it’s time for each type of meal, the tourists go with plastic plates to collect our food and drinks.
Dance Show While You Dine
The show begins. First, fire juggling, then traditional dancing. And the main course: belly dancing, complete with veil and scimitar. Night has long since fallen, and the stars shine above us on our first night in the desert. If you want, you can get a temporary henna tattoo, very common in Arab culture.
You can also take the opportunity to ride a camel. At start it might feel scary because the camel could barely take a few steps. Return to Dubai Once the show is over, the desert safari comes to an end, and you can return to the hotel again in the all-terrain vehicle. Along the way, you see the lights of other nearby camps and again the vehicles crowded on the exit road. On the sides, you can see stopped vehicles and groups of people around bonfires or large lights.
Dining in the desert is a tradition among the locals, and they are literally having a picnic. As you arrive at the hotel, Dubai welcomes us with its light show. In minutes, you leave the desert sand behind and are surrounded by skyscrapers with whimsical designs. It has been an incredible day; one you will never forget.
